Frequently Asked Questions.

domain in "Registrar Lock" status means the registrar for that domain has locked the domain to prevent any unauthorized transfer of that domain. The registrant has a setting in their account that allows them to lock or unlock their domain. A domain can also be in registrar lock status if the domain has already expired. At this point, usually the domain cannot be transferred to another domain registrar, and you will need to renew the domain with the current domain registrar.

Approximately 28 days before the domain expiration date, we begin sending reminders to you by email to the email address we have on record.

You will receive at least three reminders before the expiration date and one reminder within five days after expiration.
Once the domain expires, it will be deactivated and replaced with a parking page indicating the domain name has expired, and other services you have associated with the domain name may no longer function.

As early as 30 days after expiration, your domain name may be purchased by a third party.

If a third party purchases the domain name during this time, the domain name will not be available for you to renew.

If the domain name has not been renewed by you or purchased by a third party, an expired domain name enters the registry redemption period (as defined by each registry) approximately 45 days following expiration.
If a third party purchases the domain name prior to the registry redemption period, the domain name will not enter redemption and will not be available for you to renew.

Once a domain goes into the redemption period, it can be obtained by any other person. You may still be able to redeem your domain before 30-days after expiry by logging into your account and making payment. The fee for reactivating a domain in the Redemption Period is 340,000Ugx plus the regular renewal fee for the domain. At the end of the Redemption Period, the domain will go into a 5-day pending delete cycle and at the end of this cycle it becomes available for anyone to register.

Domains can be registered for up to a maximum of 10 years at a time. Some TLDs have their own max length of registration time like the UG Registry has a maximum of 5 years period at a time and there after this period, you can continue to renew for another period.

Authorization Code (or EPP code) is a kind of password used to protect your domain from being transferred to another registrar without you the domain owner knowing or consenting . This code is assigned to the domain by the registrar who registered in on your behalf. You will be required to provide this code when you decide to transfer your domain to another registrar.

Unfortunately, as the registry does not allow for domain names to be changed after purchase, this is not possible. Once you have registered and reserved the domain name you own that domain name through its expiration date. Be sure to ensure that the spelling of your domain name is exact when you are registering it, ensure that there are no typos or misspellings before you register.

If you did register a domain that was not spelled correctly, or want to change the domain name completely, you may also choose to just register the new correctly-spelled domain name. Then, let the old one expire after the period you have purchased it for has passed.

No. There's no need to register the domain with "www" as the "www" isn’t actually a part of your domain name. Just register example.com without the "www" then after setting up your website, you are free to add the "www"
